Tasty Cannabis Edibles you can Make at Home
What's in the article?
I love to make weed edibles for the weekend when I hang out at home and when I have people around at the house. Cannabis edibles are food products that have been infused with cannabinoids and in particular with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC gives you that euphoric high feeling so if you are looking for some fun combined with a tasty treat then baking some weed edibles are a good life choice. The great thing about eating cannabis edibles is that it takes longer for your body to absorb the marijuana and therefore you will experience a deeper and more relaxing high.
I have been making edibles for years and some of my favorite weed edibles include a chocolate weed brownie or weed cookies. They are fairly easy to make and you don’t need too many expensive ingredients. However, in order to make weed edibles, you will need to make a cannabis infused butter or oil. I personally prefer cannabis butter because you can use it in both sweet and savory dishes, it’s easy to make, it’s inexpensive and it has a nice flavor. However, it does have a high fat content and it is not vegan. So if you are looking for an edible option that is vegan and has a lower fat content and if you are willing to pay abit extra then you can rather use a cannabis oil made with coconut oil. Using coconut oil also provides a long shelf life so you can store it and then use it in multiple recipes.
How to make Cannabutter or Cannabis Oil
Before you start making your Cannabutter or Cannabis Oil, you need decarboxylated cannabis flower. You can do this by scattering marijuana evenly over some parchment paper on a baking tray and baking it for approximately forty minutes at 245F. Grind the decarboxylated cannabis flower with a hand grinder. This process activates the THC so that your baked goods will have a potent kick. If you do not bake the weed before you make edibles then your weed edibles will have no effect.
If you are not looking to get high but still want to make edibles for the health benefits then try substituting the THC with CBD. Unlike THC, it does not make you high but the media and medical research show that it is edible and may lead to health benefits like reduced anxiety and stress. You can also use it to try and help you sleep and to get better quality sleep.
Prepare in advance and ensure that you have enough weed and that you have the correct dose. If you do not have the right dose then you are either going to be high for days or you may not experience the euphoria and will want a stronger kick.
Add one cup of water and one cup of butter to a pot on low heat and let the butter melt. Add the decarboxylated cannabis flower to the pot and let the mixture simmer for approximately 3 hours. Keep the heat low and make sure that the mixture does not get to a full boil at any stage. The addition of the water should prevent scorching. Let the mixture cool and then drain the mixture using a jar and a pillow case or cheesecloth and let the flower remain in the cloth as these are not edible. Refrigerate the mixture for approximately 60 minutes and until the liquid has solidified. Then voila, you have your cannabis butter ready for some delicious edibles.
You will need one cup of decarb cannabis and one cup of cooking oil of your choice. I personally think that coconut oil is the best to use because it’s vegan and I love the coconut flavour. Combine the oil and cannabis in a saucepan on light heat for approximately 180 minutes, making sure to stir the mixture frequently. Don’t let the mixture get too hot and scorch. Strain the oil with a pillow case or cheese cloth and store it for up to two months. The infused oil can be used to make edibles for basically any main meal that you are craving so you’ve got to get creative and try making a list of recipes that you want to test out. Remember if you are craving something and it is edible and contains butter then you may use bud to make it…the sky is the limit.
