What is cannabutter?
Cannabutter is a mixture of cannabis and butter which is used to make edibles, infused with cannabis, particularly baked edibles such as cannabis cookies, muffins, cannabis macaroni and cheese and an icon, the cannabis brownie. Cannabutter allows you to receive the effects of cannabinoids, without smoking. The cannabinoids from a cannabis plant are soluble in oil, not water, and therefore when combined with the fats in butter, they are transported in the oil into your bloodstream. Therefore, by consuming a cannabis cookie, you get a potent, edible dose of thc. I like smoking weed but find that eating cannabis cookies, with close friends is a fun, sociable way to get high.
The benefits of cannabutter?
Cannabutter is my favourite, based on the benefit that you can consume your cannabis in a delicious treat. However, consuming cannabutter has other purposes including a longer, more potent effect. Cannabis infused edibles have to be digested before you start to feel the effects of the cannabis, so the process is delayed. I usually only feel the effects after 60 to 90 minutes after eating a cookie. However, it really depends on the concentration of THC, your metabolism and how many cookies you consume.

Cannabutter: How To Make
Firstly, you will need to decarb the weed so that you convert the THCA, found in the dried cannabis buds, into THC. Remember THCA does not get you high. THCA is the THC without the psychoactive effects. I search for foods and products for the purposes of de-stressing and chilling out so this recipe is a guide to create a weed cookie for the perfect high. When you decarb the cannabis and convert THCA into active THC, you allow the cannabis to become safer to use and more effective. This process requires cooking the cannabis in the oven. Start by heating the oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut a piece of aluminium foil, or another material such as parchment paper, similar to the size of your baking sheet. Lightly crumple the foil and place it on the baking sheet. Break up the cannabis into small pieces, similar to a grain of rice, and place on top of the foil. Grind and break up the cannabis buds in order to release the most moisture from the cannabis. Lay another piece of foil on top of the cannabis and let it bake in the oven for 45 minutes to ensure the THC is active. It may need abit longer but keep a close eye on the cannabis to ensure that it doesn’t burn. It should be lightly toasted and golden brown in colour, not black. Allow the cannabis to cool for at least 30 minutes before starting to make your cannabutter.
Slice the butter into small pieces. The pieces do not need to be too small, but small enough to let the butter melt quickly. Vegan or health conscious consumers can substitute the butter for oil, producing a cannabis-infused oil, however depending on the profile of the oil used and the fat content will depend on how much of THC will be absorbed. The higher the fat content, the more THC may be absorbed. This cannabis-infused oil could be used for other purposes such as body lotion or body oil.
Combine the butter (use one cup at a time), add the marijuana plant and water in a medium saucepan and cook over low heat. Stir the mixture every 20 minutes or so, to ensure that the water starts to boil and the water burns off so that the mixture starts to thicken. Cooking will take at least three hours but it might even take up to four hours because you need to let the mixture thicken.
Once the water has evaporated and the mixture looks glossy, remove the butter from the heat and let the butter cool down slightly to a lower temperature.
Once the content of the pan is safe to handle, pour the THC-infused cannabutter into a strainer or colander, lined with two layers of cotton cloth, the type used for making cheese. Or you can use another material such as paper towels. Using a spoon or spatula, drain the butter it into a heatproof, airtight container. You can throw away any of the cannabis remaining in the cloth.
Make sure that all the butter is added to the container, close the container and place the butter in the fridge for at least two hours to set. The butter may take a bit longer to set, so you will want to check the mixture every now and then.
Now that your cannabutter is set, you may use this butter in any recipe that uses traditional butter to make any edible food. Try using the butter to make a variety of products. I love simple weed cookies and there are many weed cookie recipes online but this one is easy to follow, the cooking time is less than most other recipes on my website and it provides me with just enough potency. It is as simple as using 250 grams of cannabutter, a third of a cup of sugar and three cups of flour. Pre-heat the oven to a temperature of at least 180 degrees Celsius, add the sugar, butter and flour together and beat until the mixture is soft and fluffy. Taste the mixture and see if you are happy. You can always add other ingredients to improve the flavor. My recommendations would be to add peanut butter, chocolate chips, nuts or even black sesame seeds. Once you are happy with the taste, use one tablespoon of mixture per cookie and place the cookies in the oven to cook for 15 minutes . Make sure to check the cookies in the oven after 10 minutes to avoid burning them. Again, they should be golden brown and not black. Have a look at the image of the cookies to see if you have baked them for long enough. Once the cookies are cooked, set them aside and allow them to cool down to a lower temperature, for 10 minutes or so, before you eat them.
Once you have finished cooking, invite some friends over and remember to share, you do not want to eat too much because these little guys are rather intense. I have over done it one or two occasions and it is not a pretty image in any location. The great thing is that you can travel to any location to enjoy these…take them to the park, the beach or just enjoy them at home. As part of the services offered from this site, tell me if there any other recipes that you want. You can also comment with your profile and send me an image of your baked cookies to give me some more ideas.
